This is a handmade vintage Russian Tajik tribal flat weave rug. It has an elegant simplicity that belies the intricate allover floral and geometric design. The burlap colored background has a fine pattern of repeating motifs in maroon and sapphire with pops of color in teal, peach, copper and burgundy. The rug is a flat weave, though the floral and other accents are woven in a thicker wool that has pile and creates a depth in the design. The border is a striking series of thin colorful rows of repeating small designs, from leaves to flowers to waves and other geometric motifs. The rug is extremely sturdy and can withstand high traffic while lasting generations. Handmade in the 1980s, this rug is in mint condition.
