This is a stunning and rare piece -- an antique handmade Persian Malayar runner from the 1920s and in mint condition. This runner is also a hard-to-find long and narrow size, hand-knotted with the exquisite colors made from only vegetable dyes. It is a testament to the quality of the craftsmanship, wool and dyes that the rug is in such great condition today. This long runner has an elegant tribal allover repeating motif of a geometric paisley (known as boteh, the ancient Persian tribal precursor to paisley) design in hues of gold, black, ivory, cornflower blue, peach, milk chocolate and others, all resting on a brilliant orange coral backdrop. All of this is bordered by a a gold and sapphire frame with intricate repeating tribal details and charming flowers on the vine in all of the rug's colors. The two ends of the runner have dramatic midnight blue corners with larger tribal motifs including some exotic animals. This runner has a thin, even pile that is in perfect condition. It can still withstand traffic and will continue to last another century! Note that there are some areas of abrash, the natural variation in dyes that occurs in antique vegetable dyed handmade rugs. It is a beautiful element of the rug and adds to its one of a kind handmade authenticity. Size: 3'4"x16'10"
