This is a beautiful and striking, extremely fine quality handmade vintage Persian Turkeman. Made of fine quality soft lambs wool, this rug has a soft, thin yet sturdy pile that can withstand high traffic and will last generations. The geometric and tribal allover design is finely knotted in exquisite detail by master Turkeman weavers in a repeating pattern of 'guls", or geometric medallion designs that often represent natural elements such as lakes or mountains. It is a common pattern for tribal rugs from this region, hand-knotted by village weavers using only natural dyes. This rug is particularly special for the high knot count or KPSI (knots per square inch) for exquisite detail and the rug's mint condition. The allover design is woven by hand in white, black and cherry red with occasional orange accents on the bright cherry red background. TEvery detail is meticulously symmetrical, and each motif is itself adorned with slightly smaller geometric motifs such as the ram's horn details. All of these patterns are framed by a phenomenal twelve-layer border of incredibly fine repeating designs in red and black on a white background. This rug would also be beautiful as a tapestry, or draped against a couch or chair. Size: 3'5"x5'2"
