This is a fine quality vintage Persian Sarough Mir runner, hand-knotted in the 1980s and in mint condition. Perfect for high traffic areas, this runner has a thick, sturdy pile that is soft underfoot and will last generations. The allover repeating intricate geometric paisley (known as a boteh, the ancient tribal precursor to the paisley) design is made of azure blue, black, camel, gold and white, a surprising array of colors for such a tiny motif. Much like a pointillist painting, the colors become more apparent as you get closer. These paisleys rest on a lush and delicious watermelon pink backdrop. The border is of particular interest and intrigue, framing the runner with an ivory ribbon of intricate geometric motifs and designs that almost resemble hieroglyphics, hand-knotted in all of the same colors of the rug. This border is then framed by a tribal repeat resembling the greek key design in azure blue and royal blue. Note that the shade of blue switches towards one end of the runner - a natural variation in dyes that often occurs with handmade vintage rugs that use vegetable dyes. This runner is an elegant, timeless classic. All colors are made from only vegetable and other natural dyes. Size: 3'11"x10'11"
