Yellow Flowers

This is an extraordinary rug and a rare collector's piece -- a handmade antique Persian Sarough Farahan from the 1890's/early 1900's in excellent condition with an intricate floral & geometric design.  The colors have that unique patina and abrash (natural variation) that only comes with antique handmade rugs made with natural and vegetable dyes. The shades of blue and coral in this rug are exquisite: pink coral and rose coral, sapphire and turquoise, shell pink, mint green, aquamarine, pale yellow, teal, periwinkle blue, sea green, olive green, plum, burgundy and countless other colors are hand-knotted in intricate floral and tribal motifs that create the spectacular central flower medallion and surrounding designs for this masterpiece. The colors are muted and yet deeply rich, made from only vegetable dyes that continue to last for 100s of years. The border is a luxurious shade of crimson and strawberry, framed by thin ribbons of white and plum with small charming flowers on the vine and other repeating tiny motifs. You have to see this rug in person to truly appreciate its splendor.  The thin, even low pile is typical for Farahan rugs of this age, with no holes or patches or tears.  Despite its age, the rug is sturdy due to its fine quality and can handle high traffic. It will continue to last for generations, even centuries.  It would also make for a stunning wall hanging or tapestry.  There are a few areas of lower pile and faded colors - see the last photo for a close-up. This adds to the rug's authenticity and natural beauty.   Size: 4'5"x6'10"
