This is an elegant vintage handmade Persian Koliai area rug or what is known as a "gallery size" runner for its large size and the ratio between its length and width.  It can be used as a very wide runner in a hallway or entryway or as an area rug for longer, more narrow spaces such as in front of a couch or a bed. The chic small repeating sand and ivory colored diamond pattern has small flower details in colors that become apparent as you get closer: rosewood and peach, sky blue, midnight blue, sapphire and fruit punch.  This creates the backdrop for a stunning central geometric medallion and corresponding corners full of small tribal animal and flower motifs.  The gorgeous central diamond is lush raspberry pink, with a flower at its center in turquoise, teal, rosewood, ballet slipper pink, periwinkle blue and midnight blue.  The flower is surrounded by charming birds and flowers in these same rich colors, which are echoed in the corners.  Birds and flowers guard each corner of the rug, leading to a fantastic border. The thick ribbon of blue frames the rug with repeating bright colorful geometric motifs, buffeted on either side by crimson rows of small flowers on the vie in turquoise, periwinkle and peach.  Hand-knotted in the 1980's, this versatile rug is in mint condition, has a thick soft pile that can withstand high traffic and will last generations.
