This is an elegant vintage handmade Persian Koliai that is known as "gallery size".  It can be used as an area rug, great for foyers, bedrooms and living rooms, or as a wide runner for large hallways. The copper background has a chic small repeating diamond pattern made up of tiny flowers that shift subtlely from pink to red  This provides the backdrop for a truly stunning central floral medallion and matching corners, both in exquisite details and colors.  The gorgeous flower in full bloom at the center of the rug is hand-knotted in rich cherry red, ivory and sapphire blue, with small flowers and other accents in copper, shell pink, taupe and midnight blue. These colors and designs are echoed in the corners with intricate details and small flowers.  The border is a particularly elegant feature of the rug, a thick ribbon of midnight blue that has its own garland of flowers on the vine in the same pinks and blues, with the addition of pops of mint green.  This border is itself framed by thin ribbons of charming small colorful flowers on the vine on red backdrops. This creates a very luxurious rug in both look and feel.  Hand-knotted in the 1980's, this runner has a very soft and remarkably supple and thick pile that can withstand high traffic and will last generations. Note the thin leather straps sewn on the back to help keep the rug in place - an additional sign of quality for rugs from this regions.  All colors are made with only vegetable and other natural dyes. Note there are areas of abrash, or natural variation in dyes, that occur in the background pattern.
