This is a vintage handmade Persian Finest Baluch tribal and geometric accent rug. This rug is fine quality, hand-knotted with soft lambswool that gives it a sturdy pile that can withstand high traffic and will last generations. The overall pattern is a repeating geometric motif known as a "gul", which often represents natural elements like lakes or mountains. The pattern is hand-knotted in alternating diagonal rows of burgundy and black on a strawberry red backdrop. On one end of the rug, small light green motifs grace the center of some of the medallions. A particularly beautiful element of this rug is its geometric border with a larger tribal pattern framing the rug in the same colors, highlighted by tiny rows of pale pink polka dots and a final row of tiny pink flowers. The colors are made from only vegetable and other natural dyes. This rug has areas of abrash, or the natural variation in vegetable dyes that only occurs in handmade rugs using natural dyes. The rug is also lightly distressed, with a few areas where you can see tiny dots of the white cotton of the rug's base (see last photo for close up). These minor imperfections add to the one of a kind nature of these handmade rugs -- they also make the rug a great bargain! Size: 3'6"x6'4"
