A top quality collector's piece, this vintage Persian Esefehan tapestry is handmade of the finest wool with a very high knot count or KPSI (knots per square inch) and superb craftsmanship. The tapestry's exquisitely detailed romantic scene is an illustration from the poetry of Hafez (our company namesake), one of the most celebrated of Persian poets who dates back to the 14th century! Often made by hand for royalty or aristocracy, these scenes from Hafez are highly sought after. In this case, a segment of his poetry is hand-woven in calligraphy onto the footbridge. Handmade in the 1970s, this wall hanging is woven around a wooden dowel which makes it elegant and easy to hang. Note the incredible pictorial imagery of a man romancing a long-haired woman, employing fruit, wine and poetry, as well as music played by a female harpist and of course a beautiful Persian rug. From the water lilies in the pond to the exotic birds in the trees, from the flowers in bloom to the details of the jewelry and dress, every inch of this piece is knotted with care and tells a story in such fine detail that it appears to be painted or drawn. The expressive faces, the colorful traditional clothing, the exquisite floral border are just some of the gems of this piece. The story unfolds in elegant and rich colors, all made from only vegetable and other natural dyes. Sapphire, midnight blue, azure blue, moss, hunter green, champagne, sand, cranberry, chocolate, gold and countless other colors create this beautiful scene. Size: 4'1"x6'1"
