This unique handmade vintage Persian Bakhtiari runner is overdyed in brilliant blues, a process which creates rich, saturated colors. It is also distressed, giving it an authentic antique look and the patina that comes only from natural dyes and handmade rugs.  The extraordinary colors are every shade of blue, much like a blue hydrangea bush in full bloom, with subtle differences in each flower as they fade.  The colors seem to change with the light and the height of the pile, from indigo and midnight blue to cobalt blue and azure blue, cornflower blue, turquoise, teal and every thing in between! The design is faint but striking, a series of large flower medallions down the center, with burgundy accents and intricate floral and tribal designs within the medallions and surrounding them.  The border is an elegant series of flowers on the vine in faded burgundy and teal on azure blue with sapphire accents. All colors are made from only vegetable and other natural dyes.  Some areas are heavily distressed with very low pile (close-up in last photo), but there are no holes or patches and the rug is sturdy and intact.  Handmade from quality wool, it has dense weave and despite its uneven pile,  it can withstand high traffic and will last generations.
