The background is an elegant and rich shade of burgundy with a sheen to it from the fine quality of the wool. The flowers are hand-knotted in a stunning array of rustic autumnal colors, with leaves floating throughout the open field, almost as if they are falling off the trees: gold, taupe, charcoal, copper, ivory, silver, mauve, hunter green, sage green, camel and countless others, all made from only vegetable and other natural dyes.  The border is a warm ivory, which lightens and brightens the rug, with a complementary floral and vine design in the same striking colors.
