This brilliant rug is an antique handmade Persian Bessarabian Kilim in mint condition. Kilim rugs are flat weave with a thin pile that is almost reversible since the exact same pattern is on the front and back. Bessarabian refers to rugs originally made in Moldova, Russia or Ukraine. Their distinctive style often influenced' kilim rugs made in Iran, such as this one. This kilim is rather dense and sturdy, with a very thin yet soft pile, which is unique for kilim rugs. The stunning floral design consists of a central oval bouquet of cabbage roses with such fine three- dimensional detail that the flowers are bursting from the rug in beautiful shades of red and pink with leaves in variegated shades of green and blue. The roses are surrounded by a garland of blue, pink and copper, encircled by a dramatic layer of black before the amazing border of roses and leaves, sky blue water and a frame of olive, burgundy, copper and ivory with a dramatic black final frame. The incredible details are all hand-knotted in colors made from only vegetable and other natural dyes. Despite the rug's flat weave and thin pile, it is extremely well-made and can handle high traffic areas. It will continue to last for generations. This is a collector's piece that will enrich any space. Size:7'x10'
